COURSE PREFACE

The Advanced Fault Locating course 401 is designed to train the field technician to accurately analyze and measure defective sections of cable, therefore eliminating unnecessary digs and sheath openings. Also to make cost effective decisions on defective plant resolutions.

Technical concepts offered in this course are designed to find multiple fault conditions within inches in cable sections extending for many miles with no accessible locations.

The course is taught in a live environment, on actual known defective cable sections (no simulated environments). Actual cable pairs recovered while training will frequently offset or pay for the entire cost of training.

NOTE: Training material may be considered very intense and in depth, by far the most advanced training ever offered on the subject of cable section analysis.

OVERALL COURSE OBJECTIVE

Upon completion of this course the trainee will be able to:

• Demonstrate the use of the resistive fault locating mode and open fault locating mode to analyze and pinpoint faulted cable sections
• Locate cable conductor, shield and sheath faults
• Identify unmarked splice locations
• Locate faulted cable by using both active and passive modes with the shield fault locator
• Interpret cable layouts and routes using the cable mapping formula (provides gauges, laterals, loops, etc.)
• Measuring distances to open shield and sheath bonds.
• Convert footage measurements in multi gauge cables (up to 4 gauge changes)
• Determine the amount of water in a cable section, where the water starts and where the water ends.
