COURSE PREFACE

The basic transmission course is designed to develop advanced fault locating skills with the detection and correcting of loop transmission related trouble conditions.

This course provides a basic understanding of the principles of loop transmission parameter tests and the relationship each has with customer trouble conditions.

The course will address an in depth correlation of trouble conditions with cause and effect including problems associated with modems, fax lines, caller ID, etc.

Training will be conducted in a live environment where selected loop transmission problems exist. This process enhances student confidence and greater retention of course material.
 

OVERALL COURSE OBJECTIVE

Upon completion of this course the trainee will be able to:

1. Demonstrate the knowledge and skill to diagnose transmission related faults associated with:

• Low loop current
• Excessive loss at 1004 Hertz
• Excessive loss with slope
• Metallic Noise
• Power Influence
• Longitudinal balance
• Stress tests
• Ground resistance problems
• Fax, modems and caller ID transmissions
• Improper loading
• Extended bridge tap echo (loaded and non-loaded loops)

3. Understand applications of central office equipment including:

• DATU (where applicable)
• Combination Line
• Quiet line
• Slope test
• SASS (where apllicable)
