FIELD FAULT
LOCATING
(FL101)
COURSE
PREFACE
The Field Fault Locating course will focus on developing advanced
skills with special emphasis on using the open and resistive fault locating
modes, actual field exercises will be conducted utilizing known recorded
defective pairs. This process will eliminate all simulated environments
within the training structure and will enhance real world applications,
thus building student confidence.
The purpose of this course is to train the technician so that maximum
benefits will be derived from the use of the multi-functional test equipment.
OVERALL COURSE OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course the trainee will be able to:
-
Demonstrate the knowledge and skill to locate resistive faults such
as shorts, grounds and battery cross, using the resistive fault
locating mode.
-
Understand the principles of resistance and capacitance. Also to measure
and locate opens, dirty opens, high resistance opens and to detect load
coils.
-
Utilize physical distance, resistive distance, capacitive distance,
in order to interpret cable layout, when current plats are not available.
(This method allows for proper calculations of cable gauges, unknown laterals
and cable loops and routes.)
-
Isolate buried service wires and cable faults within encapsulated and
closed plant environments.
